Understanding Natural Colour Variation
Variations in colour can occur between the bedding and headboard displays in our showrooms and the specially ordered or stock beds and headboards we deliver to you.
Similarly, when ordering items from images in brochures, catalogues or other printed matter, due to the limitations of printing processes, variations in colour of the delivered products can occur.
These are normal and do not constitute manufacturing faults.
Setting Up Your New Bed, Mattress, & Headboard
Follow these essential care and installation steps to maximise your comfort, protect your warranty, and ensure your new bed looks and performs beautifully for years.
Bed Frame & Base Information
Setting up your new bed frame or divan base correctly ensures its longevity. Once you have moved your new bed into its designated room and removed the packaging, securely fasten any multi-section bases together using the manufacturer’s supplied fixings.
Depending on the specific model you selected, your bed may be delivered with the feet or castors detached; simply locate these parts and follow the manufacturer's guide to install them.
If your bed features castors and is sitting directly on a wooden floor, we highly recommend using protective, non-slip castor cups to prevent surface scratching.
Finally, keep in mind that integrated divan storage drawers are designed exclusively for lightweight items. Avoid overloading them, as heavy items can damage the tracking and weaken the bed's overall structural integrity.
Mattress Care & Compatibility
To get the most out of your investment, proper setup and pairing are essential.
Always completely remove the protective polythene packaging from both your mattress and base before use; leaving it on traps sleep-induced condensation, which quickly leads to dampness, mildew, and potential rotting.
When first unpacked, your mattress may appear slightly smaller than its base or emit a subtle "newness" odour, particularly if it contains modern memory foam components.
This is entirely normal; the odour will fade, and the mattress will naturally settle and spread to its full size within a few days.
We also recommend letting your new mattress air out for a few hours before dressing it in linen to let the fillings acclimatise to your home's temperature.
If you are pairing your new mattress with an existing bedstead or divan base, ensure it is the correct size and offers proper structural support. Placing a new mattress onto an older, worn-out base can cause performance issues that are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty or our 5-year structural guarantee.
For existing bedsteads, the slats should ideally be no wider than 63mm with gaps between them not exceeding 63mm to provide optimum support.
Be sure to check the manufacturer’s care leaflet delivered with your mattress for any specific requirements, or check your Customer Information Pack for more information.
Headboard Installation & Safety
If you have purchased a matching headboard, it will need to be securely attached to your new bed base. This is typically done by aligning the headboard's upright struts with the pre-drilled holes in the bed base and tightening the supplied bolts.
Just follow the manufacturer's instructions for a quick and seamless installation.
Once fitted, please remember never to pull or drag the bed by the headboard when rearranging your room, as this leverage can easily snap the headboard struts or permanently damage the bed base.
How To Maintain Your New Bed
Once your new bed is installed, you'll want to keep it in top condition for years to come. Here are some top tips and mattress care instructions to help you maintain your new bed:
Bed Frame & Base Maintenance
To keep your bed base in peak condition, a little regular maintenance goes a long way. Periodically check that all headboard fittings, legs, and castors remain tight and secure, as these can naturally loosen slightly over time with movement.
When it comes to cleaning a divan bed base, gently brush the base with a soft brush every few months to remove dust and fluff; avoid using a vacuum cleaner, as the powerful suction can disturb the internal fillings.
If you ever need to relocate your bed, always separate the base sections completely before moving them rather than trying to shift the unit as a whole.
Finally, remember that beds are not trampolines. Allowing children or adults to bounce on them will drastically shorten their lifespan and completely negate both the manufacturer's warranty and our free 5-year structural guarantee.
Mattress Adjustment & Daily Care
Sleeping on a new surface is a transition, and it is completely normal if your new bed or mattress feels different at first.
Your body simply needs time to adjust to the new, improved level of support. If your mattress features a memory foam construction, you will notice it softens during this initial period as the foam's "closed-cell" structure naturally breaks open; this is an expected characteristic of the material, not a manufacturing defect.
To keep your mattress fresh, we recommend airing it out for at least 20 minutes every morning by turning down the duvet from the top half of the bed, which allows daily body moisture to evaporate.
Additionally, you should avoid sitting on the edge of the mattress for prolonged periods, as this concentrated pressure can deform the internal border support.
When moving the mattress, take care never to bend or fold it around tight corners, and avoid leaving it standing on its side for extended periods, as this can permanently warp the spring unit and invalidate your warranty.
Mattress Longevity & Protection
Protecting your mattress from wear and tear is the best way to safeguard your investment.
Over time, fillings will inevitably compress where your body weight is most concentrated, creating a visible indentation. This compression is actually more pronounced in higher-quality beds with generous comfort layers.
While it's not a fault, you can minimise it by turning your mattress over and reversing it head-to-foot every 2 to 3 weeks for the first 3 months, and then every three months thereafter.
Because mattresses are heavy and unwieldy, this is best done by two people to avoid injury or damage.
Please note: For "turn-free" models, you should only rotate the mattress head-to-foot, never flip it.
To shield the fabric from accidental damage, we highly recommend using a high-quality mattress protector to prevent staining and reduce dust buildup.
If a spill does occur on an unprotected mattress, act quickly: dab the liquid immediately with a soft, dry cloth, wipe any residue with a damp cloth, and allow the area to dry thoroughly.
Never saturate the mattress, and do not use harsh chemicals or detergents, as moisture and cleaning agents can ruin the internal fillings.
You may also notice slight fabric discolouration over time; this is harmless and occurs when the protective chemicals in the fabric react with bodily perspiration or products like deodorants.
Lastly, if you use an electric blanket on a memory foam mattress, use it with caution. Prolonged exposure to direct heat can damage the foam's viscoelastic cell structure and potentially invalidate your warranty.
